Photodynamic Therapy for Acne
Photodynamic Therapy or PDT is a special treatment performed with a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan (ALA). When ALA is applied to the skin and activated by a laser or BLU-U light source, it has the unique ability to minimize pores, reduce oil glands and redness. It is fantastic for treating stubborn acne vulgaris, acne rosacea, some acne scars, sun damage, fine lines and blotchy pigmentation.
To achieve maximum improvement, a series of 3 – 4 treatments 2 - 4 weeks apart is the most effective although some patients are happy with just one treatment. Additional treatments can be done at periodic intervals in the future to maintain the rejuvenated appearance of the skin.
Dr. Roberts uses ALA to enhance her Omnilight laser advanced photofacial treatments and recommends its use in combination with our BLU-U light.
